HIV/Aids Prevention Program Gutted By Bush

The incredible cold and callous hypocrisy of the Bush Administration, which began it's shriveled, black hearted and mean spirited life with a presidential campaign in 2000 centered around their slogan "Compassionate Conservatism" is spotlighted now in all it's malignant ugliness in this story by Julie Weisberg of RawStory (via an at-Largley post from Larisa Alexandrovna):

'Shocking' program could carve $60 million out of HIV/AIDS prevention budget over next three years

"A little-known initiative added to the recently-renewed Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Act will divert $60 million from the Center for Disease Control’s HIV/AIDS prevention budget over the next three years into a fund for which no states actually qualify.

CDC officials say that if no new money is appropriated to offset the annual funding loss, the agency will be forced to make cuts in its support for state HIV programs to make up the difference.

Renewed by Congress last fall and signed into law by President Bush in December, the act supports a wide range of care and treatment services for those living with HIV/AIDS. But a provision inserted into the act’s budget by conservative Republican Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) could dramatically reduce funding for prevention programs."
The term "Compassionate Conservatism" in the US was was invented by Dr. Marvin Olasky, and Myron Magnet of the Manhattan Institute. Olasky's book "Compassionate Conservatism: What it is, What it Does, and How it Can Transform America" was one of the early defining books on the slogan.
A compassionate conservative might see the social problems of the United States, such as healthcare or immigration, as being issues to which conservatives can find better solutions than their opponents can.

Magnet and Olasky based their views on the Christian doctrine of original sin. Olasky writes: “Man is sinful and likely to want something for nothing. … Man’s sinful nature leads to indolence … appetite and lust and idleness.” (Olasky, Renewing American Compassion, 64, 41). They assume that poor peoples' sins are the root cause of their poverty and that, as such, traditional religion is ultimately the only cure for poverty. ---Wikipedia
A George W. Bush and Republican Party political specialty has always been to blame the victim for his problems. The basis of "Compassionate Conservatism" is exactly that attitude.

We can see from this that obviously the Center for Disease Control has no need for $60 Million to help people suffering with AIDS and HIV.

Just tell the patients to believe, and pray for miracles. After all, it's their own fault they're sick, right George?

Unbelievable. "Compassionate Conservatism" my ass. How much more of this kind of sickness must the world put up with?

Hasn't a cure for cancer of the attitude been found yet?
